if im correct this obelisk came from the temple of luxor in egypt. i did a paper on that temple. but i might be wrong sine i cannot remember where that obelisk was relocated to.
actually it was in the city of Heliopolis and was brought to Rome in 10 AC. But yeah, it is really ancient (1100 BC)
there are 13 ancient obelisks in Rome, some of them actually come from egypt and some were made in Rome, most of the Egyptian ones come from Heliopolis, which was a city in the northern part of Egypt, near what now is Cairo.
yep, there's one in paris that comes from luxor luxor is 500km south of cairo, that's not too far if you're used to distances in the US i mean, here we think a 30 minute drive to see relatives is too long. my brother, when was studying in Chicago, drove like 6 hours to get to his flat-mate's parents house for thanksgiving
A flight to Paris is not too expensive if you book it early enough
if only i could afford to go to paris id go for sure. i cant afford half the shit i used to now that im in school and the bad economy is around. the driving isnt to bad i think. 6 hours is a little retarded but i drive for a few days to get to texas to see my family each summer. but i get to see alot along the way.
uhuh having to cross the ocean is a bum, flights are expensive. i don't know how things work in the US but here we have a few low cost airlines (like ryan air) that with around 40$ take you almost everywhere in europe, round trip. the service sucks (they're even thinking to make people pay to use the toilet on their planes!!!) but if you're on a budget they're great
nothing like that here for both ways. not that cheap. gotta take the train and even that isnt that cheap. its 200 right now two ways just to go to texas. from here in chicago. and its always fluctuating a few weeks ago the same flight was 300.

that's a little sad. being able to visit all europe for less than 100$ it's one of the few benefits of modern society
