Artist's Comments

I just bought a set of Kenko extension tubes that allows macro photography with normal lenses, changing the focus distance of the camera.
They're a bit hard to use (it's hard to focus on something moving at 2 inches from the lens) but they can give amazing results.

These pictures was taken with a 50mm 1.8 lens and 2 out of 3 tubes.

This is great.
The blurry images
reminds me
of an abstract painting.
That little red spot...

It seems my pen rests not...
Ink flows freely and ceases to yield.
The pages are soon filled in...
A void interupted.

Was it that hard to get this exactly in focus? Or is the Depth of Field so fucking shallow that less than an inch in in focus?

If so, use a ruler...
:iconechomrg:
using the extension tubes i've found out that DOF get definetely shallow, just moving the camera a tiny bit can completely screw up focus and it's mighty hard to get a large area in focus.

plus i did an error while shooting this, i left the aperture ring on something like 11 or 16 and shot thinking it was on 2.8, so it was quite underexposed, i had to pump up the levels with photoshop.

the problem with using a ruler is that i should have factored the extension tubes influence in and i don't think i would have been able to do the maths on the spot ;)

anyway, let's say 50% my error, 50% VERY shallow DOF.

Well check it out. If you are dealing with such shallow DOF, try using a smaller Aperture to get a bigger DOF, just to test it out. Say an F/16 or higher would do the trick. But shooting wide, at 2.8 is going to give you the shallowest DOF you can get.
